The Wiggles, guitars, dancing, skateboarding, WWE…Gavin has always been known for his phases. The older he gets, the longer these phases seem to last and the more intensity he gives them.
We’re on spring break. Gavin has started most mornings on You Tube checking out other eight year old skate prodigies. Through out the rest of the morning he wanders back and forth from the living room to the garage to the driveway, scooter in tow polishing his latest trick until it gleams.
This afternoon I found him dismantling our hurricane shutters in order to build a grind bar. He was having some trouble pounding the rivets out with the hammer he found after tearing apart Scott’s tool box. I was asked to assist. Making great memories with an eight year old boy who soon will rather not spend his time with me, or remaining prepared for silly things like hurricanes? What are the chances of a hurricane coming to Florida? Not nearly as good as the chance of making Gavin’s afternoon a little more exciting.
He’s also made some interesting friends at the skate park that he goes to several afternoons each week. He let me know the other day that it was just a matter of weeks really before he was going to be famous. One of his friends, a twenty something skater boy, had videotaped him and was putting it on You Tube. I’m on the look out for paparazzi these days, just waiting for some of his fans to recognize him.
So, I guess it should come at Gavin begged to stop at this rest stop during a recent weekend road trip through the Everglades. He asked if he could stretch his legs and work on a few new tricks for his mini skateboard.
